Interest on stock deposits? (Deposit fee)

When opening a securities account, a CMA account was also opened. Since the securities account is a comprehensive account, I thought that CMA interest would come out if I put it as a deposit.

It's been several months since I opened an account and made a transaction, but I haven't seen interest, so I looked up the interest rate on the deposit.

Ah! Interest on deposits and CMA interest on stock accounts were different. Interest rates were different, but so different!

What is a deposit or deposit?

Deposit refers to the cash that can be purchased with the cash in the securities account and received two days after the sale.

Financial Supervisory Service definitionAccording to:

Customer deposits are dividends on cash and securities from trust margin received from the trustee (customer) by a securities company in connection with brokerage transactions, etc. Deposit is the amount that a securities company separately deposits with a financial institution according to the Capital Market and Financial Investment Business Act by depositing money received from customers by a securities company, and is divided into deposit method and trust method.

What is the deposit? It's a little different, but in the end the meaning is the same. Deposit refers to money that a securities company temporarily keeps in connection with the sale and other transactions of securities. Deposit is money that is deposited in English.

KB Securities Deposit Utilization Rate GuideAccordingly, the investment deposit is as follows:

In accordance with laws and regulations, financial investment companies deposit the remaining amount (investor's deposits) in securities finance from the cash deposited from investors in connection with the sale of financial investment products such as stocks and funds and other transactions.

interest on deposit

Interest (deposit fee) is charged on the deposit in the stock account.

Deposit refers to the deposit of cash in a stock account with a securities company. Therefore, interest is charged on the principal, just like savings or deposits. This is called customer deposit usage fee.

KB Securities Deposit Utilization Rate GuideAccording to this, the investor deposit usage fee is as follows:

The amount that a financial investment company pays to investors after deducting direct and indirect costs (labor costs, computer costs, etc.) from the yield on securities finance generated from investor deposits as deductibles is called investor deposit usage fee.

Securities companies pay deposit usage fees for deposits (deposits).

I thought that the 'service fee' was paid by the consumer, but it is not, but from the perspective of the securities company, it is a usage fee that uses the amount entrusted to the consumer. The point of view of the term is that of a brokerage firm, not a consumer.

When you sell the stock, it does not come in immediately, but comes in two business days later. When the auction was first created, as its name suggests, it was an auction, not the current open market auction. The reason for not paying the money right away was not because of a refund, but because the company was taking interest in the meantime. I don't think the brokerage is like that.

The interest rate on deposits is similar to the interest rate on a free deposit and withdrawal account.

The reference date of the data confirmed in September 2021 is June 9, 2020, which is about 6% to 30%.

I don't know how up-to-date it is because the brokerage company directly registers it. The final interest rate seems to have no choice but to be confirmed by individual securities companies. therefore The usage fee rate on the KB Securities websiteIt is the same as as of June 2020, 6.

Interest rate comparison: free deposit and withdrawal bankbook, deposit fee, CMA

Accounts that can freely deposit and withdraw money are free deposit and withdrawal accounts of banks, deposits of securities companies, and CMAs.

As of September 2021, it is as follows:

구분 interest rate
free deposit and withdrawal account 0.10%
Stock deposit (deposit usage fee) 0.10 ~ 0.25%
ACM 0.5% ~ 0.7%
Kakao Bank Safebox 0.50%

Interest rate on deposits of stocks = interest rate on free deposit and withdrawal accounts

The interest rate has risen to 0.75%, but it does not seem to have been reflected in banks or securities companies yet. The interest rate varies depending on the interest rate, but you can look at it relative to each product. The interest rate on deposits is the same as the rate of free deposit and withdrawal.

I don't know if people who do stocks know this, but after comparing them like this, I was surprised.

If you don't have cash to buy right away, it's better to keep it in CMA.

The interest rate for CMA accounts is much higher than for general trust accounts with deposits.

When opening a KB Securities account, I also opened a CMA account, but it is automatically converted to RP, and the interest rate is 0.7%.

So, unless you want to buy it right away, it is advantageous to keep it in your CMA account.

In addition, there is no account transfer fee between the general trust account containing deposits at the same brokerage and the CMA.

If the amount is not large, the difference is several tens of won or several hundred won, but if you are diligent, interest is paid every day, so it is fun to watch.

foreign currency deposit

There is no deposit usage fee for stock foreign currency deposits

I was curious about the dollar deposit, but there is no interest.

KB Securities' usage fee rateIt also turns out that there is no

Deposit usage fee is not paid for foreign currency deposits and closed accounts

Korea's investment in US stocks has been huge since Corona 2020 in 19, and the amount of deposits in foreign currency is probably not a joke. However, the brokerage firm has not yet paid any fees. Probably because it is a foreign currency, there will be issues with exchange rate or trading, but it is still a bit strange.

You can automatically purchase foreign currency deposits (RP type).

I found a brokerage company that automatically purchases foreign currency deposits in the form of RP.

However, the problem is that each brokerage company has a minimum amount. Usually between $500 and $1000 or more. Only Kiwoom Securities does not have a minimum amount.

If you receive small dividends from US stocks, it would be good to use this. The period of deferral should be several months, so if you are saving it, you need to think about it.

There was room for doubt about the interest on the deposit, but it was annoying and passed on, but in the end it was suspicious.

I don't have much money, but instead of putting it in the deposit as it is, I put it in CMA, and when I need to buy something, I move it to a general trust account.

This way, you can plan how much you want to buy today.

In addition, although budgets are managed by item, it may not be controlled while shopping, but since there is no deposit, it is controlled externally.
